'O' Wisdom, Come and teach us the way of Prudence!

The 'O' Antiphons Advent Study Week 1: O Wisdom

O Wisdom, which comes out of the mouth of the most High, and reaches from one end to the other, mightily, and sweetly ordering all things: Come and teach us the way of prudence.

Gospel

"Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour." Matt 25.13

Prudence

  1. the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason
  2. shrewdness in the management of affairs
  3. skill and good judgment in the use of resources
  4. caution or circumspection as to danger or risk

The priestly exhortation in the ordinal

"never forget how great a treasure is placed in your care: the Church you must serve is Christ's spouse and body, purchased at the cost of his own life. Remember that you will be called to give account before Jesus Christ: if it should come about that the Church, or any of its members, is hurt or hindered as a result of your negligence, you know the greatness of the fault and the judgement that will follow. Therefore apply yourself with diligence and care, and fashion your life and ministry in accordance with Christ's example." APBA p.793-794

Holy Hermit St Martin of Tours

“Lord, if your people need me, I will not refuse the work. Your will be done.”

"Allow me, brothers, to look toward heaven rather than at the earth, so that my spirit may set on the right course when the time comes for me to go on my journey to the Lord."
