Not only are we celebrating the end of this liturgical year, before moving into Advent and starting year C, but we also have some other exviting things happening at Christ the King worship on the 24th of November.
The Rev'd Dr Gemma Dashwood will join in as our preacher and offer the message for the week. Rev'd Gemma is well known to our community already, a beloved member of the Cathedral team and often taking part in our studies and other occasional events. She is an honourary priest who offers her time to the Cathedral communities alongside her work as an ICU doctor which often sees her on night as well as day shifts. Music is a big part of Rev'd Gemma's ministry and she recently reflected on this on page 11 in the May edition of the Eagle. Charlie and Annie are Rev'd Gemma's canine fur-babies who also appear on screen from time to time.
We will also be joined by Fiona Hammond, who has been journeying alongside a few of our members this year undertaking The Anglican Theology and Practice Certificate as 'guinea pigs'. We were invited by the FormEdFaith team at Saint Francis College to engage with this program and offer feedback from our experience. Two of our members have completed the course and are being awarded their certificates at worship. A few others are continuing on that journey into the future and we look forward to when we will award their certificates at another worhsip service next year. It will be lovely to have Fiona with us to award the certificates digitally.
Please pray for Rev'd Gemma as she forms the sermon and Fiona as she prepares to join us at HHO for the first time.
Lord Jesus, when you speak there is light and life. Please speak through all our preachers, especially Rev'd Gemma, as she offers her ministry gifts to our community. Holy Spirit, please inspire her in preparation and in delivering the sermon. Creator, make us ready to welcome her and hear your word spoken through her. We ask these things in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
